Vault22 (formerly 22seven)

22seven is a financial aggregation service that gives users a consolidated view of their finances — pulling data from multiple accounts into a single dashboard and surfacing relevant financial products.

I joined as a Flex developer and designer during the early stages of the product. The work was deeply visual — we were constantly tackling data visualisation challenges, finding ways to make complex financial information intuitive and, at times, genuinely beautiful.

One of the more memorable pieces was a cluster visualisation for spending categories, built using Verlet integration. The physics-based layout automatically grouped and sized spending categories into a tightly packed circle, giving users an immediate, visceral sense of where their money was going. Credit to my friend Andries Odendaal for pointing me toward the Verlet approach — it turned out to be the perfect fit.
